Candied Pecan Glazed Donuts

Candied Pecan Donut

We LOVE candied pecan donuts.  And, we eat them even when it's not National Donut Day...but, what better way to celebrate one of the best days of the year?!

If you have some serious culinary talent like my sister, Anna, who made these delicious donuts, then use your favorite donut recipe for the base.  If you are more like me and have limited talents in the kitchen, go ahead and buy your favorite plain donuts from your local market.  Then, create your candied pecan topping using the directions below:

Crush or chop about 1 cup of Black Bow Sweets candied pecans and place in a shallow, wide bowl or small plate.  You can use more or less depending on how many donuts you plan to make.

For the glaze:
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 3 or 4 tablespoons milk (or water)
  • 2 teaspoons *vanilla extract (optional)

*You can give your glaze a maple twist too!  Just replace the vanilla extract with your favorite maple syrup.

Place sugar in a medium bowl and slowly add in milk (or water) and stir together to create a glaze.  If using the vanilla extract, start with just 3 tablespoons milk (or water) and add the 4th tablespoon only if needed.  Glaze should be smooth and pourable.

Dunk the top half of each donut in the glaze and then dunk glazed portion into crushed Black Bow Sweets candied pecans.  Place donuts right side up on a plate or baking sheet.  Continue until all of your donuts are glazed and covered with nuts.  Finally, drizzle the remaining glaze over the donuts and top with any remaining candied pecans.  Let glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
